3 Things To EXPECT From Working With A Financial Planner

3 Things To EXPECT From Working With A Financial Planner

The image is of two people working together to achieve the best results

Last month, we held our first ever event. It was an intimate event for our newest 8FP clients at Hencote in Shrewsbury. It was a huge success but it got us thinking… What should people expect as standard from working with a financial planner? And what do we do to ensure our clients get that and more?

3 things you should expect from working with a financial planner

1) Security

Finances, regardless of your position, can be overwhelming. The market is ever changing and it can be difficult to know where to start to reach financial freedom.

What you should expect as standard:

A financial planner should work with you to understand your current financial position, what your financial goals are and when you would like to achieve them. From there, they can create a bespoke plan to ensure that happens, giving you peace of mind that your finances are in order, with a clear mapped out journey towards financial freedom. Whatever that means to you.

What we do:

From the start, our initial meeting with you is up to 90-minutes long and done at our expense. The sole focus of the meeting is getting to know you, your family, your goals, your bucket list, and what’s worthwhile to you. Not your financial worth.

From this, we are able to build a financial plan around the lifestyle you want, not just your assets.

Ensuring you’re in a strong financial position is what we should be doing. Using your finances to give you a better quality of life is what you deserve.

We listen to what lifestyle you want and adapt your financial plan to support that, whilst supporting you on your journey to financial freedom.

2) Support

Having a financial plan isn’t a one and done job. It’s not a case of having a plan to follow and that’s that. The financial plan is just the beginning. You should receive so much more than that.

What you should expect as standard:

Once you have a financial plan, this should be monitored and constantly reviewed to ensure it’s serving you and your goals the most. You should also be kept in the loop with annual reviews and check-ins from your financial planner.

What we do:

The bespoke financial plan we provide is a roadmap. It shows you what will happen to your income in the future, based on assumptions around spending, inflation and investment growth. This simple, clear guide will allow you to make better informed decisions on how long you need to continue working for and how much you can spend in retirement.

We do it this way for two reasons:
  1. You are empowered and informed when it comes to your finances and changes to the market don’t affect that.
  2. Your financial plan is always in alignment with the lifestyle you want.

  • We charge differently – We are fixed fee which means we don’t charge a percentage based on your assets. Instead, our fees are simple, clear and based on the value we can add. Using a fixed fee structure allows us to put you first with no hidden agenda.

  • We host quarterly client-only lifestyle events – The idea is that we can try new experiences together. It’s not just your finances we want to take care of, it’s you too.

  • We use our position to offer different areas of support – Being a financial planner is a privileged position that allows us to discuss various, personal aspects of your life. This means we are able to offer lifestyle coaching alongside financial coaching.

As well as our contact with you, we also want to make sure anything we put out is of benefit to you. From our blogs and social media posts, to our monthly newsletter that contains finance tips, lifestyle hacks, recommendations and exciting announcements. You can sign up to that here.

3) A better quality of life

Financial freedom looks different to everyone. For some it’s retiring earlier, working less days, being able to travel, having wealth to pass onto their children, etc.

A financial plan shouldn’t just give you a route to financial freedom though, it should give you a better quality of life overall.

What you should expect as standard:

Working with a financial planner should give you peace of mind over your finances and a clear path to follow towards financial freedom. Having a bespoke plan and transparency will allow you to make positive changes to your life – Work one less day, go on holiday, know you are retiring 5 years earlier so you can start to prepare for retirement, etc.

What we do:

Encourage you to invest in more than your finances – We actively encourage our clients to invest in their health, wellbeing and personal development as much as they do their assets. We believe that in order to provide you with the highest level of financial planning, we need to look at the bigger picture.

That’s why we dedicate time to getting to know you and helping you understand how we’ll maximise your return.

We’ve made partnerships – When it comes to your wellbeing, we want to make sure that’s a priority too. We’ve partnered with Headspace to offer our ongoing advice clients free access to their full range of meditation and mindfulness tools.

We don’t just work with you – We offer financial education for your children. We empower and educate them around finance from the start, so that your family and your assets are always protected.

Our referral system is designed to benefit you – If you are an ongoing client who kindly refers your family/friends/colleagues to us and they become an ongoing client, each party will receive the following reward to choose from:

  • £100 charity donation of their choice
  • £100 restaurant gift card
  • £100 Telford Shopping Centre gift card
  • £100 Bull Ring & Grand Central gift card
